What to expect
- Step 1Consultation
- Step 2Treatment
- Step 3Recovery
- Step 4Results
Step 1 Consultation
A thorough consultation is an important first step when deciding if CoolSculpting is the best option for you. One of our board certified surgeons will discuss your desired results, examine you and provide an honest, professional opinion on how best to achieve those results. We also make certain that you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting, taking into account your age, health, medical background and other factors that could affect the safety and effectiveness of your treatment. All of our consultations are conducted with the goal of making sure our patients feel comfortable, confident and informed about CoolSculpting.
Step 2 Treatment
We make every effort to ensure you are completely comfortable during your CoolSculpting appointment. You will be seated in a chair or lying down, depending on what area of the body is being treated. Using a safe and effective cooling process, CoolSculpting technology targets and freezes fat cells beneath the skin without harming or affecting any other cells.
A special pad is placed under the target area to protect the surface of your skin. The CoolSculpting device is then placed on the body, drawing the target area up between two cooling panels. As the cooling panels begin to freeze the fat cells, you may feel an intense cold, which quickly dissipates. After this brief, initial sensation, many people feel absolutely nothing and spend the hour-long treatment time relaxing, reading, working on their laptops or even taking a nap.
Once crystalized, the body naturally eliminates the frozen fat cells. Results become visible once the body has successfully rid itself of the frozen cells. Several days after the procedure, the frozen fat cells begin to shrink and die. Over several months, the cells are slowly broken down and processed through the liver where they are converted to energy and naturally removed from the body.
Step 3 Recovery
CoolSculpting is a completely non-invasive procedure with virtually no pain and no downtown. You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. In fact, many people have CoolSculpting treatments performed during their lunch hours. Some people do feel temporary numbness or experience redness around the treatment area, but this goes away very quickly.
Step 4 Results
While results vary based on the individual, CoolSculpting is highly effective at removing local areas of unwanted fat such as love handles, belly fat, back fat and “man boobs.” Many people begin seeing a thinner, smoother and more contoured body area three weeks after treatment. Results gradually improve as your body continues to remove the frozen fat cells. The most dramatic results become visible after two months, and your body will continue to remove the frozen fat cells for up to four months. During your consultation, your doctor will thoroughly explain what results to expect.
Q: Is CoolSculpting right for me?
If you want to remove unwanted fat from around your belly, thighs, waist, back or other problem areas, and you do not want to undergo a traditional liposuction surgery, CoolSculpting may be the right option for you. The best CoolSculpting candidates are men and women in relatively good shape who exercise regularly or semi-regularly and are having difficulty eliminating modest fatty areas. CoolSculpting is not an effective treatment for obesity and is not a replacement for a healthy diet and exercise. CoolSculpting candidates must be in good health and have no pre-existing medical conditions that could create complications.
Q: What causes excess fat?
Despite having a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and a reasonable amount of exercise, some people still struggle with disproportionate body contours created by localized fat deposits. Sometimes these areas are the result of genetics or aging, as opposed to overeating and a lack of exercise.
Q: Why choose RTH Plastic Surgery for my CoolSculpting treatment?
When choosing a cosmetic doctor to perform CoolSculpting treatments, there are three important qualifications to consider: training, experience, and personal attention.
Dr. Hajjar was one of the first doctors to provide CoolSculpting in the area, and he continues to be one of the most sought after doctors to perform the treatment. All of our RTH doctors have years of experience performing CoolSculpting treatments and spend the necessary time with every patient to answer any questions and address any concerns about the CoolSculpting process. We make it a priority to ensure our patients are well-informed and completely comfortable with their decisions. We know that your time is valuable, which is why we maintain an efficient treatment calendar and use the latest techniques and technology to minimize your recovery time and maximize your results.
Q: Will my insurance cover CoolSculpting?
Insurance companies commonly do not cover an elective or cosmetic treatment like CoolSculpting unless it is performed to correct a medical or health condition. If you plan to use insurance as payment, we strongly suggest consulting with your provider to discuss if the treatment is covered in part or in full by your current plan.
Q: Will my CoolSculpting results look natural?
Unlike surgical fat removal, CoolSculpting is non-invasive, thus eliminating the possibility of scarring or any other signs that a treatment was performed. Results are soft, natural and improve over time, so you don’t have the instant, dramatic change that you would have with a surgical procedure. While results vary based on the individual, we focus on creating the most natural results possible. During your consultation, your doctor will thoroughly explain what results to expect.
Q: How long will results last?
The longevity of results varies and is dependent on the amount of excess fat, the laxity of the skin and skin type. Typically, you can expect CoolSculpting results to last as long as you maintain your weight and a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise.
Q: What are the risks of CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared for the flanks (love handles) and abdomen and is proven to be a safe and effective treatment with minimal risks. Side effects are rare and may include redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness to the touch, cramping, itching, tingling or numbness. We are happy to explain in detail any of the risks and possible side effects prior to your treatment. We carefully review your complete medical history and all medications you are on to prevent any complications.
Q: Can I have additional procedures in combination with CoolSculpting to enhance results?
Yes, your RTH doctor can recommend additional services to enhance your desired results such as Exilis or VelaShape treatments. RTH also offers the option of combining your CoolSculpting treatment with a laser skin resurfacing treatment, which promotes collagen growth under the skin for a smoother, more youthful appearance.
