What is Botox Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic effectively improves the appearance of frown lines, worry lines, laugh lines, crows’ feet and other dynamic wrinkles for a temporary period of time. Botox treatments are simple and non-surgical with relatively no pain or discomfort.
An RTH technician, specifically trained to safely administer Botox, injects the medication directly into the facial muscles with a very fine needle. The medication blocks the nerve impulses in those muscles, reducing the muscle activity that causes various wrinkles and lines.
Botox Cosmetic treatments are most commonly performed to achieve the following results:
- Quickly, safely and effectively erase deep, unwanted frown lines, worry lines, crows’ feet and laugh lines
- Offer temporary results with virtually no downtime or discomfort

Step 1 Consultation
A thorough consultation is an important first step when deciding if a Botox Cosmetic treatment is the right option for you. We thoroughly discuss your desired results and provide an honest, professional opinion on how best to achieve those results. We also make certain that you are a good candidate for treatment, taking into account your skin type, age, health, medical background and other factors that could affect the safety and effectiveness of your treatment. All of our consultations are conducted with the goal of making sure our patients feel comfortable, confident and informed about Botox.
Step 2 Treatment
Before your treatment, we will answer any questions that may have come up since your consultation. Every effort is made to make certain that all of your concerns are addressed and you are as comfortable as possible.
During treatment, the Botox medication is injected precisely into the tiny facial muscles of the treatment area with a very fine needle. The medication blocks the nerve impulses in those muscles, reducing the muscle activity that causes wrinkles and lines. Because the needle and the amount of medication used in a treatment are so small, discomfort is usually minimal and no sedatives or local anesthetics are needed.
Step 3 Recovery
After treatment, you may experience some swelling, redness, pain, bruising and tenderness, but these are very temporary. You can go back to your regular activities right after treatment.
Step 4 Results
Results do vary, but patients typically enjoy a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines with smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. Full results are usually seen within two weeks of treatment. The overlying skin is smooth and wrinkle-free while the underlying, untreated muscles are still able to contract, allowing you to make natural facial expressions after treatment.
Botox results are not permanent and typically last four to six months depending on your skin type and skin condition. For sustained results, we suggest having two or three injections a year at three to four month intervals.
Q: Are Botox treatments right for me?
If you want to erase stubborn lines and wrinkles on your face with minimal discomfort, Botox treatments may be the right option for you. Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 65 and in good health with no serious medical conditions.
Q: What causes lines and wrinkles on the face?
Wrinkles, lines and aging skin result from a combination of factors. Part of it is cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss and damage done by free radicals, but lines and wrinkles can also be the result of muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow, fold and wrinkle.
After years of frequent contractions, those wrinkles and lines linger even when your muscles are at rest. Because these types of wrinkles are caused by muscle contractions and not just the natural aging process, even young adults can get them.
Q: Why choose RTH Plastic Surgery for my Botox Cosmetic treatment?
When choosing a cosmetic professional for Botox treatments, there are three important qualifications to consider: training, experience and personal attention. Q: Will my insurance cover Botox Cosmetic treatments?
Insurance companies commonly do not cover an elective or cosmetic treatment like Botox unless it is performed to correct a medical or health condition. If you plan to use insurance as payment, we strongly suggest consulting with your provider to discuss if the treatment is covered in part or in full by your current plan.
Q: Will my Botox treatment results look natural?
Botox treatments are minimally-invasive, providing results without the need for any surgical procedures, thus eliminating the possibility of scarring or other signs that a treatment was performed. The overlying skin is smooth and wrinkle-free while the underlying, untreated muscles are still able to contract, allowing you to make natural facial expressions after treatment. During your consultation, we will thoroughly explain what results to expect.
Q: How long will results last?
The longevity of results varies, but typically results last between four and six months depending on your skin type and skin condition. For sustained results, we suggest having two or three injections a year at three to four month intervals.
Q: Can I have additional treatments in combination with Botox Cosmetic to enhance results?
Yes, your RTH doctor can recommend additional services that may enhance your desired results including other wrinkle reducing treatments like chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion and dermal fillers.
